InĀ a partnership with New Mexico Junior College, University of the Southwest, Lea County, Hobbs Municipal Schools, J.F. Maddox Foundation, and the City of Hobbs, the Center of Recreational Excellence (CORE) was conceived and brought to fruition. This 200,000 sq ft buildingĀ is currently slated to include fitness and sports gyms, multiple turf fields, three pools including a 10-lane competition pool, jogging tracks, racquetball courts, and more. The CORE broke ground in 2016 and has an expected completion date of Spring 2018.
The COREĀ is designed as a multi-generational facility for everyone in Lea County to enjoy and use. Many of the included itemsĀ will serve dual purposes to replace existing structures such as pools and gyms locally. The CORE will be constructed off of NM-18, close to both the New Mexico Junior College and University of the Southwest. It is within a ten minute drive time from EnergyPlex Park.
